On 13 February, foreign minister Maxime Verhagen opened the Hague Centre for Strategic Studies (HCSS), calling it ‘one of the youngest offspring in The Hague’s family of peace, law and security’.
The establishment of the HCSS in The Hague has boosted the city’s international role. ‘As you know, The Hague’s reputation as the world’s legal capital is a cause close to my heart,’ said Verhagen. ‘As Minister of Foreign Affairs, I am wholeheartedly committed to maintaining this reputation.’
The HCSS is an initiative of security expert Rob van Wijk. The centre carries out strategic research and conducts analyses of international peace and security issues.
