Nedcar rehires 1,000 to make SUVs

September 1, 2008 by Sueli

Dutch car manufacturer Nedcar has asked 1,000 technicians it dismissed two years ago to return, writes today’s Volkskrant.

The Mitsubishi Outlander, a compact sports utility vehicle which is much more fuel efficient than most other SUVS, is so popular that the company’s Japanese plant cannot cope with demand. Mitsubishi has invested tens of millions of euros in Nedcar’s plant in the town of Born, which it bought in 2001.

In the next fiscal year Nedcar hopes to produce 30,000 Outlanders, 70,000 Mitsubishi Colts and 30,000 Peugeot 4007 and Citroen C Crossers.
