Amsterdam gets University College
January 16, 2008
Amsterdam is to get a University College, an English language programme for students from all over the world.
The University of Amsterdam (UvA) and the VU University intend to launch Amsterdam University College in September, as an UvA spokesperson yesterday stated. Students are to graduate as bachelor of liberal arts and science and will be accommodated on the accompanying campus.
Amsterdam expects to have a definite building with campus grounds by 2012. The location for the grounds is not yet known. For the time being, lectures will be given in the existing UvA and VU buildings and students will be offered accommodation nearby.
University College Amsterdam eventually hopes to welcome two to three hundred students a year, but expects one hundred and fifty students for the first year. The intention is that half of the students are Dutch and the other half from abroad. University Colleges already exist in Utrecht, Middelburg and Maastricht.
