Maastricht University is hosting the world’s first conference devoted to the personal relationships that will develop between humans and robots in the coming decades. The conference will take place on June 12th and 13th 2008.

The conference was inspired by the worldwide publicity that surrounded a PhD awarded by the university last October, for a thesis entitled ‘Intimate Relationships with Artificial Partners’. The recipient of that doctorate, David Levy, whose book ‘Love and Sex with Robots’ was published the following month, is one of the organizers of the conference, which looks set to make the Netherlands the world centre for this new area of research.
