Sibiu and Luxembourg 2007 European cultural capital

The Romanian town of Sibiu and Luxembourg are jointly the 2007 European capital of culture.

New Year’s Eve celebrations in the central Romanian town also marked Romania’s accession to the European Union and the new cultural year.

It is no coincidence that Sibiu and Luxembourg have been named Europe’s cultural capitals for 2007. Sibiu, Romania’s second-largest town, was founded by Luxembourg immigrants in the 12th century. The old inner city is on the Unesco world heritage list.
