Mosae Forum

October 1, 2007 by Sueli

On Wednesday, September 26 the Mosae Forum, the vast new shopping center, a marketplace on the banks of the Meuse, was opened by The Netherlands’ Crown Prince Willem Alexander, with a festive market around the city hall and a special festival for children on the Meuse promenade; a musical parade in the downtown area, and a performance of the Plasticiens Volants (who were also around for the closing ceremony of the Barcelona Olympics).

The Mosae Forum involves a renovation of an important part of downtown Maastricht and links the city with the river Meuse again, completing the circle around the market. Access to the bridge and tunneling around has enabled this to be a traffic-free environment. Mosae Forum has 16,500m2 of office space for the municipality with a front office and a council chamber of 900m2, and there is also 18,500m2 of shopping space with cafes and restaurants and shops such as H&M, The Sting, Sissy-Boy, Esprit and Grand Café Centre Ville.

In the basement, with its vaulted ceiling, next to the Jumbo supermarket there is MosaeGusto!, 3,500m2 of gastronomic delight to taste, cook and buy. This is biggest gastronomic fresh market in the Benelux countries. There is underground parking with 1,100 spaces on four levels. Mosae Forum also has 18 luxury apartments and city housing.
