Doping on the increase in Netherlands

The Doping Authority reports that performance-enhancing drugs are becoming more popular in the Netherlands, particularly among young men in the major cities. Around 150,000 people used anabolic steroids, the growth hormone epo and similar drugs in 2005, twice as many as the previous year. The use of cannabis and tobacco remained the same or even decreased during this period. The Doping Authority believes the increase in this kind of drug abuse is the result of the fitness rage and their easy availability via the Internet.
