26 March: Up the Mekong, a lecture organised by the Netherlands-England Society in Maastricht
The next Netherlands-England Society event in South Limburg is scheduled for 26 March 2007 when adventurer and ‘Teller of Travellers’ Tales’ John Pilkington will present “Up the Mekong”. He will give an audio-visual presentation in Maastricht at the Grand Hotel l’Empereur. (Stationstraat 2, starting at 8 pm. Non-members are welcome at €5 per person (students €3.50))
“This exciting journey took John up the world’s twelfth longest river from the South China Sea to Tibet and beyond. Starting among the rice paddies of Vietnam, he made his way via Cambodia, Thailand, Laos & Burma and through the gorges of China’s Yunnan province, meeting river-people of seven nationalities along the way. In a climax to the trip, he and two Tibetans reached the glacier on Mount Guosongmucha, north of Tibet, where the Mekong rises at over 17,000 feet,” reads the flyer.
