13 November: GNE lecture: “Sir Christopher WREN & the English Baroque” by Andrew Lacey

Having a degree in History, and Library Information Studies, Mr Andrew Lacey has worked as a professional librarian in various colleges & universities, Cambridge Trinity Hall to name one. Now he is part of the Faculty for Architecture & History of Art within Cambridge University.
This slide-illustrated talk will briefly look into the life and achievements of Christopher Wren, among which St Paul’s Cathedral. Wren’s architecture has come to symbolise stability, order and survival created against a backdrop of war, revolution and rapid intellectual & cultural change. Sir Chr. Wren (1632-1723) was very much part of this process of change, making his name in the 1650s. Besides, he was a founder member of the Royal Society, of which he was President in 1681.
