Are you looking for an opportunity to combine your charitable goodwill with a unique evening programme? Would you like to get more in touch with the vibrant international community of Maastricht University?

Then the First Charity Ball of Maastricht University might be what you have been looking for. On the 1st of December, the Maastricht Graduate School of Governance (MGSoG) is organizing this international event which gives you the opportunity to contribute to sustainable development and at the same time to take that black tie attire out of your closet again.

Participation offers you an enchanting evening filled with a special dinner served by the renowned Maastricht restaurant, Le Courage, dancing, live music and a “Silent Auction”. The event will be opened by Curtis R. Roosevelt, grandson of the famous American president. Roosevelt has a special bond with the School of Governance, having been in Maastricht once before for the School’s opening event “Yalta and Beyond” in 2005.

In addition to the opportunity to meet Curtis R. Roosevelt personally at the dinner, yet another highlight of the evening will be an exclusive show by famous dancer Marcus van Teijlingen, known from the popular TV programme “Dancing with the Stars”.

Moreover, during the Silent Auction, guests have the opportunity to bid on the numerous donations which the School has received from more than 40 generous shops, hotels and restaurants from the Maastricht region and beyond, ranging from dinner vouchers and spa weekends to a real hot air balloon ride and paintings from known artists.

The Charity Ball is part of the School’s fundraising activities that contribute to the MGSoG/UM scholarship fund. The fund gives talented students from developing countries the opportunity to come to Maastricht and participate in the high quality education in an international, multi-cultural and engaging academic environment.

Since many talented and motivated individuals in these societies lack the financial resources to follow such education, development in their countries is stagnating due to insufficient use of human resource capital. Therefore, investing in such motivated and talented individuals is one of the most powerful tools to improve sustainable development.

The MGSoG, set up by the Maastricht University Board in September 2004, has a mission to enable its international students to contribute to the development of their societies, increasing local capacity to deal with global influences. Alumni of the School make a difference every day as policy-makers and analysts all over the world.
