1 Dec-6 Jan: Winterland in Maastricht

December 2, 2007 by Sueli

The 9th edition of Winterland Maastricht will start on the 1st of December 2007. The Vrijthof in Maastricht will change in a wintersquare with a Christmas Market, an ice-rink, a big wheel, christmas-train and a grand carrousel. Of course there is gluhwein (warm red wine) and a lot of other drinks and food.

Winterland Maastricht will house the real Home of Santa Claus. The ‘Maastricht’ version of Santa’s Home will have the looks from his original house, in Finland.

Santa Claus will live and work in his house in Maastricht from 7 December 2007 until 6 January 2008. The house has a post office, a gift room, sleeping room, Santa’s office, kitchen and a bad room. Visitors can visit the Home of Santa Clause for free! They will receive some information about every room’s purpose.

‘Les Parapluies de Cherbourg’ is the Christmas theater production for Maastricht that will have its premiere on December the 22th, at the ‘Theater aan het Vrijthof’ in Maastricht.

The show is based on the famous movie by Jacques Demy with music by Michel Legrand. It is the very first appearance of the show in the Netherlands and the first self-made production by the ‘Theater aan het Vrijthof’.

Especially for Winterland Maastricht this production will be performed in Dutch, together with ‘Opera Zuid, ‘Swing Design’ and the ‘Limburgs Symfonie Orkest’. Director Ted Keijser promises a sentimental musical evening, with classical melodrama, beautiful strings and loud trompets to the public.
