Tourism along the Meuse river
The provinces of Limburg and Liege among others want to invest in the promotion of cross-border tourism along the Meuse, by organising several-days cruise trips on the river and by publishing common cultural and historical guides.
The first four-day cruise started on Sunday and will take 400 passengers to Givet-Sedan in the French Ardennes region. The second cruise is planned for 31-4 June.
New detailed brochures and a book about castles along the Meuse river are expected in June.
The Dutch and Belgian provinces of Limburg and the Belgian provinces of Liege and Namur hope that these initiatives will make the public aware of the unique cultural and historical sightseeing spots along the Meuse.
A total of EUR 400,000 have been made available for the promotion of tourism in the Meuse valley. The EU contributed EUR 200,000 to the project, the provinces of Dutch Limburg and Liege EUR 80,000 each and the Belgian province of Limburg EUR 40,000.
