The outgoing lower house of parliament met for the last time Wednesday. On Thursday, the new-elected representatives will meet for the first time. A total of 69 new MPs will be taking their seats.

There have been calls for an immediate vote on the question of an amnesty for asylum seekers who have run out of legal recourse. However, it has been pointed out that it would be unconstitutional for parliament to take a major decision of this kind before a new government has been formed. As a compromise, the outgoing cabinet may be asked to stop deporting asylum seekers for the time being.
