After my Dutch mother passed away I was shunted around by the social services of South Africa. I ended up growing up in various foster homes and children’s homes. Six years ago I applied and received a two year work permit to travel and work in the UK. The main reason for this was so that I could find any of my moms family in the Netherlands. I found my moms cousin . This friendship grew and become vital with regards to where my roots were. She shared family history and took me around the Netherlands telling me about the Windmill that was in my family for many generations. I developed a peace about my Dutch relatives.
But now I grieve her passing away this year, May. I am a independent person who did not want her to sign surety for me and wishes so much that I could have stayed in the Netherlands for the few years ,that I knew her. What I am trying to say is that the time period taken for this latent nationality law to be passed has taken far far to long. I wounder if the full extent of our suffering has even been realized .I am tired of waiting.
