A number of people have recently been injured in the Netherlands because of a new rage among youths who make bombs from drain cleaners containing caustic soda.

On Wednesday, an 11-year-old boy in Gorinchem suffered serious eye injury when his home-made bomb exploded in his face. Two days earlier, a dog in the same town was injured after a home-made bomb he was sniffing blew up. Last Friday, two women were injured in Amsterdam when a group of youths threw home-made explosives into a bus; the driver was taken to hospital with breathing difficulties.

The Dutch Central Bureau for Food Products has called on supermarkets to report minors who purchase drain cleaners.
