Travel: A view of Maastricht via Google Earth

September 14, 2006

Google Earth received a major database update at the end of last week, introducing 15-centimetre resolution for the first time to areas such as the Netherlands and Japan. People can now see the clearest and most detailed aerial imagery of the Netherlands yet.

So here is the latest view of Maastricht via Google Earth. The old fortified city walls can clearly be identified at the bottom right corner of the picture.

And here is Centre Céramique which houses the Maastricht city library and the European Journalism Centre on Plein 1992: (see placemark)

The following image is a view of Limburg within the Meuse-Rhine Euroregion. Maastricht is located only 40 km away from the German city of Aachen to the east, 35 km from the Belgian city of Liège to the south and 30 km from Hasselt in Belgian Limburg to the west.

Amazing, I’m so glad I stumbled upon this site. Maastricht is one of my favorite cities. I think I will post about the Jan Van Eyck Academie, if I can find it on Google Earth.
